Iku Kawachi is a graduate student in the University of Washington's Master of Communication in Digital Media program. He graduated from the University of Miami in 2008 with majors in journalism and geography and a minor in sport administration. He was born in Tottori, Japan, but spent a large part of his youth in Torrance, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. In all, he has lived in Kashiwa, Los Angeles, Osaka, Kyoto, and Miami, completing the IB Diploma Program at Osaka International School.

Iku is proficient in Web programming and graphic design, and is attempting to learn other Web languages such as jQuery and PHP. He is an eager learner, teaching himself basic and intermediate HTML and CSS as a teenager, and loves to write, particularly about sports. He is a native speaker of both Japanese and English and has a conversational mastery of Spanish.

Iku worked as an editor for the Ibis Yearbook and the webmaster for University of Miami Alternative Breaks (UMAB), a service organization focusing on active citizenship and social justice, in his time at UM. He also served as president and, prior to that, vice president of the Aikido Club, a Japanese martial arts club. He is a passionate fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and Hanshin Tigers, and his interests include baseball, basketball, physical fitness, commercial aviation, and automobiles.

Iku currently resides in Seattle, Washington. He can be reached via Twitter (@justaniku) or LinkedIn.
